Frequently asked questions.
The questions people actually ask before, during, and after their first paste. Grouped by topic — or search if you’re in a hurry.
Getting started
Creating a room, pairing a device, and getting your first paste across.
Is pastehere free?
Yes — completely free. Create a room and start sharing instantly. No sign-up, no credit card, and no limits on text sharing.
Do I need an account?
No. There’s no account, no email, and no sign-up. Open pastehere, create a room, and start sharing across your devices right away.
How does pastehere work?
Create a room and you get a unique six-digit code. Enter that code on your other devices to pair them with the room.
From then on, everything you paste syncs across every connected device in real time, end-to-end encrypted.
What devices work with pastehere?
Any device with a modern web browser — desktops, laptops, tablets, and phones. There’s nothing to install; just open the room on each device to connect it.
Files & limits
Size limits, storage per room, and how content sticks around or gets cleared.
How big can a file be?
Up to 15 MB each, with 100 MB of total storage per room.
What about larger files?
For bigger transfers, a dedicated file-transfer service is a better fit — pastehere is built for quick, clipboard-style sharing rather than large uploads.
Do messages expire?
Not on a timer. Your messages and files stay in the room until you remove them — delete a single item, clear the room, or destroy the room (which permanently wipes everything in it).
You can also turn on auto-cleanup, which drops the oldest items once the room reaches 80% of its storage.
How do I free up space?
Delete individual items, clear the room, or turn on auto-cleanup so the oldest items are dropped automatically once the room hits 80% full.
Privacy & security
What’s encrypted, what the servers can see, and what happens when you destroy a room.
Is pastehere secure?
Yes. Everything is end-to-end encrypted with AES-256. Our servers only ever store ciphertext and can’t read your content.
Your data stays until you remove it; destroying a room permanently deletes everything in it.
Can the servers read my data?
No. Your content and filenames are encrypted on your device before they’re uploaded. The server only ever sees ciphertext, sizes, and timestamps — never the contents.
How is the encryption key shared between devices?
When you pair a device using the room code, the two devices run a password-authenticated key exchange (a PAKE) over that code.
The shared room key is derived on your devices and is never sent to the server.
What happens when I destroy a room?
Destroying a room permanently deletes everything in it — every message and every file. There’s no recovery, by design.
Didn’t find your answer?
The fastest way to understand pastehere is to try it. Open a room, paste something in, and watch it land on your other device.
